After extensive refurbishment the doors re opened in April 2005 to give a more modern, continental feel to what is Hanley's oldest bar. Situated in the corner of Fountain Square a stones throw away from the Potteries centre, we have the largest outside seating area to be found in Hanley with seating for over 50 people with the vast majority covered by two huge umbrellas. Furthermore at Christmas we can convert the umbrellas into a heated marquee which ultimately connects to the main dining area allowing us to hold parties catering for up to 60.
In March 2006 the bar took a new and exciting step, promoting ourselves as a Belgian bar. I personally love Belgian beer and Belgian food and given our square location the only thing that surprises me that I didn't try this earlier.
We currently stock over 60 varieties of Belgian beer plus the standard bar offerings for those who are yet to be converted. But beware these are not beers for the faint hearted, ranging in strength from 3% to a very heavy 12% with varieties of amber, blonde, dark, fruit, golden, honey, spiced, trappist, white?. the list goes on, not forgetting traditional schnapps too.
Food is served from 11am daily (noon on Sundays) and currently concentrates on traditional English fayre, however we are now introducing several Belgian favourites like mussels & frites and waffles to further complement the Belgian beer.
Our goal is simple, to provide a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to enjoy a drink or take a meal with friends or your family. Our food is fresh, bought locally and prepared to order. We have no desire to be the cheapest in town, as cheap rarely equates to quality and I believe you get what you pay for.
So if you like Belgian beer then we are the only bar in Stoke on Trent that can genuinely call itself a Belgian bar so check us out next time you're in town.
